Happy holiday greetings to all of you! Happy solstice, happy honukkah, merry christmas, happy new year "Happy Everything!" I hope many of you will be able to take a few days off from your busy work lives and enjoy the company of special people.

I encourage each of you to celebrate the progress you've made with your health and self care and and self awareness.

The holiday season is a time to practice preservation of all that you have earned in terms of a stronger, more resilient physical and emotional state. It's important that we all do our very best to stay positive and devoted around our welness at this time of year so that we remember why we make the healthy choices we do rather than reaching for whatever is closest or easiest or immediately soothing.

It can be helpful to keep in mind that any choice we make in the direction of unhealthy indulgences can come back to haunt us in the form of cravings for days to follow one indulgence. Just one little bite is sometimes too much. We each know our will and our bodies and minds better than anyone and can judge for yourselves how much we can allow our food choices to vary at this time of year (if at all.) You CAN do this time of year healthfully and wonderfully influence those around you and helping others to reduce the amount of sickness that they feel at this time of year related to poor food choices! Take it upon yourself to BE the change you wish to see around you. Be the healthy inspiration without being the killjoy. Tell people only the positive reasons that you are making the choices you are. Leave out the complaints, the history and all the scary things about mainstream food choices that you may be struggling to accept yourself. Let people make healthy choices out of courage rather than fear. We all know what feels right when we come in contact with it. Those who are ready to embrace some change in their lives will gravitate towards your truth right now and will be inspired by your positive reasons for your changes in self care.

A Reread of the post on cravings and the “which way to the healthy path” post might be well timed about now. Many of us get in our own way more than any obstacle or excuse we might find and when these cravings inevitably come up, the ideas on these threads will be there fresh in our mind to help us negotiate with the sensations of desiring something that is not good for us.

It doesn't have to be a do or die scenario as far as how well we stick to the diet but human behaviour tends to swing rather like a pendulum -all the way from one side to all the way to the other side. One of the reasons for this in the case of candida recovery is of course related to the allergic and candida related cravings that lead to binging. To avoid these, we have to identify those foods that "unhinge us" in a serious way as one of our members put it - and NEVER eat those foods. If an alcoholic has a drink, they are going to want many more drinks and the same is true for CRC sufferers. Take it "one day at a time".

If you fill yourself up with good food before going to holiday events and maybe even have an extra glass of fibre and water, you'll be better able to resist those foods you shouldn’t have. In many situations you can ask if you can bring something. This will be helpful so that you'll know there’ll be something you can eat. I like to bring a big salad or some crackers and dip or veggies and dip and then I know that I'll have enough food to fill up on even if I cannot eat anything else. Bringing a healthy alternative to desert or a sugar free desert can also be wise.

Even if you do not bring food, you can eat veggies etc. and explain to your host that you are on a special diet and that you feel unwell if you break it so you will just nibble. If you do this politely they will not be offended especially if they have some idea in advance that dietary issues are a challenge for you right now. Ideally you'll get to use this as an excuse to introduce some of your friends or family to some super healthy treats AND take care of your special diet needs at the same time!
