My story in a nutshell...
About 3 years ago I was trying to be a surrogate mother for my sister and her husband. With this I was put on synthetic hormones among other things. We tried twice but with no success. Immediately after going off all meds, I experienced my first yeast infection...followed by three more in just one month! My doctor would give me a pill to make the infection to go away, but of course it would just come right back... ...In a years time I had done enough of my own research to find out I had candida yeast overgrowth. (This website has been awesome!) A bloodtest revealed that I had 'severe yeast overgrowth'. I began the candida diet and after two months I felt a huge improvement - high energy, clear head - no yeast infections!! Then, I got pregnant... I didn't feel comfortable with depriving my growing fetus of important nutrients so I reintroduced fruits and starches. I ate whole organic foods only but pretty much had a 9 month yeast infection - I was so sad, not to mention so scared of the effects it would have on my baby. Then, I delivered my baby naturally. My plan was to go to a naturopath right after she was born and work with them to conquer the candida yeast problem. After two very stressful months post-baby I never made it to the naturopth but... My yeast problems are gone!! No yeast infections...I feel great... My doctor said my system flushed itself when I delivered the baby. I've slowly reintroduced foods back into my system with no reactions. It has been 10.5 months and I haven't had a single infection, have energy, and can eat anything...bread, chocolate bars... Has anyone else experienced this after childbirth? In the back of my mind I am always worried it will come back. I have not been for a bloodtest to see if there is still, in fact, yeast overgrowth in my body. But, I have been symtom free since the day I delivered... |

Hi Fluffy and welcome to the forum!
Tarilee, our moderator, will be back on Tuesday to give you the formal welcome links, though it appears you've probably already come across them in your travels... That's really amazing. Now, I certainly wouldn't go back to eating sugar if you previously had issues with candida, but that's truly quite interesting. I'm curious to see what others have to say on this! Let us know how you're doing, Ashley |

Welcome again Fluffy,
Your story is one of grand recovery. However, like Ashley, I encourage you to honour the lessons your body has taught you and avoid sugary foods. One google search of the health consequences of eating sugar (way beyond candida) might convince you otherwise. Sugar suppresses the immune system and mental function and feeds cancer cells while stressing the digestive system and blood sugar balance. Pregnancy is magical for some people. Usually the amazing boost in immune function that is common disappears post birth. If you were able to maintain some of the glory, fabulous! I love to hear stories of people who, through candida sickness, learn great things about healthy eating and how good they can feel and then never go back to risking their health with 'mainstream' eating. The normal fare for most people consists of "food like substances" to quote Michael Pollan. I'm still very happy for you that you feel well and I'm glad you stopped in to say hello and let us know how well you're doing! Take good care, Tarilee |
