I'm delighted to see that you all say d-mannose is candida safe for cystitis since it's the only thing i've ever found that helps and i thought i couldn't use it no more.
BUT HOW can it be candida safe when it's as sugary as sugar comes?? this has probably been anwered somwhere but my current infection is making it very hard to cobcentrate since all i wanna do is go to the toilet. again. i think you know the feeling. also: can vaginal thrush and cystitis be die-off symptoms? Thanks for a great forum and overall site. y've revolutionalised my life completely in just 2 weeks! |

Hi Honey--what a great name!!!
Welcome to the forum--Tarilee, our moderator, will be back on on Friday to give you the welcome links, but for now you've got the rest of us! I have had chronic UTIs the entire time candida has been an issue for me. The two things I've used successfully are D mannose and cran concentrate sweetened with stevia. When I cleared up most of the candida this became less and less of a problem for me. However, I still remain prone. Another thing that helped me tremendously is andrographis. I had to start this herb for another protocol I'm on and I haven't gotten one single UTI in the seven months I've taken it--in absence of dmannose or cran. You may want to look into it. It's only effective against UTIs caused by e coli though...(which is about 85% of them). Tarilee will likely explain why dmannose is okay for those of us with candida--she has written on it before but I can't remember the exact reason now... And yes, I've experienced UTIs and vaginal itching as die off as well. I'm so glad you're finding this forum as wonderful a place as i did!! Let us know how you are and take care ok? Ashley |

wow that's so quick!
thanks guys! i recieved my d-mannose today and as usual it only took a few hours before my symptoms subsided. i am so glad i can still use it! thought it'd be the biggest no no since it's sugar only... very confusing, but good! looking forward to hearing miss TLC's explaination. |

It's safe and it's wonderful and it's a complex sugar somewhat similar to FOS in structure.

D-Mannose is a simple sugar that occurs naturally in some plants, including cranberries. Although small amounts of D-Mannose are metabolized by the human body, much of it is rapidly excreted in the urine. In the bladder, D-Mannose can adhere to bacterial lectins, Beneficial Effectsing them from sticking to the lining of the bladder. Bacteria can then be flushed away during urination, thereby precluding the formation of colonies within the urinary tract. Because insubstantial amounts of D-Mannose are used by the body, it does not interfere with blood sugar regulation.

Hi folks,
A simple trial with D mannose will be likley to prove to you that it feels great and is an amazing alternative to anti biotics. As for the sugar chemistry, for anyone who is interested, I can look this up and explain it. For now, if anyone out there (in addition to Ashley) has tried, do please tell of your experience! Thanks! I think D-mannose is FANTASTIC!
I took a chance and bought it a few years ago through some GOOGLE ad thinking it was probably just bogus but it's revolutionized my life! I hardly ever get cyctitis anymore and if i do i just have a couple of spoons over a day and it's gone! And I'm so glad it doesn't feed candida even if it's a type of sugar, i mean it tastes like icing sugar so it's very strange that it doesn't! |

It's *awesome*...since I started taking D-Mannose I haven't had *ONE* UTI, I used to be plagued with them and of course would have to take antibiotics, now I don't.

This is great information for me too. I've had many UTI's over the years and don't want to take any more antibiotics for them. But do I take d-mannose only when I get an infection, or daily to prevent UTI's? And how much should I take?

Hi Sharona,
I would imagine that different d-mannose products have varying recommended dosages. Check the package for instructions or call the company. It's a good idea to call them anyway and ask them for assurance that their product is free of any genetically modified ingredients. I don't know of anyone who takes it regularly for prevention but I imagine this is possible. Again, you could check with the supplier for details on this. Cheers, TLC |
