I am currently pregnant, and am considering birth control options for after the baby is born. I have a lot of vaginal candida symptoms, and was wondering if using an IUD would make them worse. I know that there are two kinds - one with hormones, which I would like to avoid, and another that simply has copper on it. Would this be harmful, or cause metal toxicity problems?

Hi BloomMommy,

Congratulations on that new baby coming!! love2 I just asked about your name on another post, wondering if you were expecting or a florist!!

I don't have personal experience with an IUD, but there is a post from Sandy, who's member name is Buddygirl. I don't mean to alarm you, but Sandy just died of ovarian cancer. So did my mom. We feel that my mom's cancer was caused by the replacement hormones she took after Menopause to protect her heart. So I had asked Sandy if she'd share some of her background and what she thought may have caused hers. She felt like the copper IUD for her was part of the problem. You could seach for posts from Buddygirl to find it. I'm kind of new so I don't know exactly how to do that. Or if you searched my posts it might be easier because I don't have so many. It would be from the end of 2007. I don't want to alarm you. But I didn't expect to hear about an IUD, so I felt it was compelling.

Ashley, I think, has posted some info on birth control that seems safe. I'm too old to need it, so I'm no expert. I just wanted to pass on the info about Sandy's post. Ya know, it may be Sandie, but I can't leave this box to check, or I lose all I've typed.

When is your little bundle due? How fun for you!

happybounce lol Yes, I suppose my name does sound like a florist's! It's actually part of my name, though.

I am about 11 weeks now, due in August with our third child. I also have a 3-year-old son and a 1 1/2-year-old daughter. The reason I was asking about an IUD was because I am trying to research different birth control options for after this one is born. My husband wants a vasectomy, but I am not sure I am ready for him to do that yet. And this pregnancy was a bit of a surprise, so it's pretty much scared him off completely unless I can find a reliable birth control method! Roll Eyes

Anyways, thanks for the information about the copper IUD! You know, I had a feeling that it probably wasn't the right thing to do, but that just scares the crap out of a person!

I know that I had recently seen posts about a member who had recently died, but I didn't realize who it was. I am fairly new to the site as far as posting, but I had been reading posts on the forum for almost a year before that, and I read a lot of her posts. It is so sad.

I read some posts about a "pearly" also - probably a little too expensive for me, and I don't think my husband would trust it! Confused

I just hope I can find something else to try that is reasonably effective and won't exacerbate the yeast! I have a lot of vaginal symptoms, too, and it's difficult enough to enjoy sex when you're sore - much less if you have to use some cumbersome device! Razz

Thank you for your information and your response! You people are all so nice and friendly! It was nice to meet you!

Hi Bridget, our wonderfully pregnant forum member!!! bouncepink bulbpurple bouncepink

I honestly find the pearlie to be the best form of BC out there (along side a condom in my case, but I'm not married so i always like to take that added precaution! Eek Smile). It's non-invasive, 99% accurate, and easy as anything. I've never been happier with any form of BC before...As for the cost, you need only put $100 down (I don't mean "only"--believe me times are tough round here!), and then you pay $24 per month until it's paid off...it's not too, too bad.

In any case, I'd give it a try if you feel it may be of benefit to you. I figure I'd rather spend the $324 once than ever put the BCP back into my body... Wink I had a really hard time with it...

Take very good care,

Ashley hearthrob

A few Years ago, almost 5 years, I got a copper IUD put in. Unfortunately, I have had almost constant yeast infections since then, even after I had it taken out. I think that I may have had candida problems before then, but this made it worse.

Well, there you go,

good luck everybody.

Cheers,
