Hi.

I'm new to the forum. After a gazillion Google searches, I finally found this forum (thank goodness).

I have been having a thick, white, clumpy vaginal discharge for over a year now. I have complained to my GYN several times, and she has ran several tests (std, yeast, etc). All tests have come back negative. She said this could very well be my normal discharge (but I wasn't always like this, and I don't like it). I've tried AZO Yeast tablets. I've tried oral probiotics. I don't know what else to do. Sometimes I feel like my vaginal flora is just off. I would appreciate and and all feedback.

ps. I don't have any vaginal itching or any vaginal odor.

Hi,

Check my post to Didi re: cytolitic vaginosis. I have had what seems to be the same issue for several years now. So far, no answers. But I'm still looking, and am interested in sharing symptoms, ideas, reactions, impressions with people who might be going through the same thing. To be specific: my discharge, from the 2nd week of my cycle on, is white and clumpy (white flecks like cooked egg white). It's very acidic and smells like yoghurt or sour milk. Doctors insist it's normal -- I can categorically say it is NOT normal. I have barely any discharge on my underwear -- lots of vulvar dryness as a result. I use emu oil to relieve the irritation from the dryness. This doesn't resolve the problem, but at least it allows me to get through the day without being extremely uncomfortable (and irritated!). Normal for me = plenty of lubrication and a discharge that's clear with a pleasant odour. What I'm experiencing now is far from normal. Doctors have consistently thought this was a yeast infection -- I have more prescriptions for Diflucan than I care to mention. Yet when they do vaginal cultures, there's no yeast whatsoever. I've asked about lactobacillosus, twice -- they say they don't see anything abnormal under the microscope either. I've been given estrogen suppositories (Vagifem) and the Estring ring -- neither really changed anything. One doctor suggested I might have Lichen Sclerosis, but he wasn't sure and didn't want to do a biopsy (he prescribed cortisone cream instead). I do Betadine douches once in a while, and baking soda douches if I feel I'm really acidic. Bottom line is I don't know exactly what's wrong or exactly what to do about it. I have a history of endometriosis and surgery for ovarian cysts (part of one ovary removed). Don't know if this has anything to with this issue. It's all quite challenging. I think the hardest part is the isolation, because you can't generally talk about "vaginas" and "vaginal discharge" with people. It's still a surprisingly taboo topic. So, although I don't have any answers yet, I'm here to share my story. I've found it very reassuring to know I'm not alone, not a freak. Negotiating sexuality can be complicated enough without this added problem.

Thanks so much Rachel V. for responding to my post. I will search for your post to Didi and read through that. My normal discharge also used to be clear with plenty of lubrication. I just don't know what's happening now or why, and it can get quite frustrating.

After starting this thread on March 8, I took a good look at what I was eating. My eating was terrible. At one time, I hardly ate any sweets, and I never drank anything containing sugar. Well, I was going crazy on the carbs. I started eating low carb on March 10, and I started noticing less of the thick, white clumpy stuff. I started with Yeast Away on March 14, 2008, and I'm noticing a tremendous difference. I didn't see any thick, white, clumpy stuff at all today. I can't believe I waited so darn long to change my way of eating. I could kick myself. I'm so glad I found this forum.

Hi AMW,

Did you have a look at the Diet section here?

I'm glad you're making the connection. Some folks eat sugar and then immediately experience a change in vaginal health. You may be one of these people. Good luck with your explorations. Perhaps a food diary would help you?

Take care,

TLC
