I had an appt. with my Dr. this week. He is one of only a handful of GYN Infectious Disease Doctors in the US. His practice is only patients that suffer from Vulva disorders. I had a good visit and all my Candida is within normal limits

What better proof can you have than feeling better? I'd say follow your own intuition. You have to live in your body, he doesn't!!

Hi Maggie,
Most doctors have just a few hours of nutritional training and few stay on top of issues of the importance of optimum digestive health and the necessity of cleansing the body to reduce toxicity related to our chemically intense lifestyles as well as the toxins released by parasitic pathogens such as yeast. Some yeast in the intestinal tract and vagina is normal. An overgrowth can wreak havoc and can lead to a systemic problem. If one wants to restore energy and health, it's necessary to strengthen the immune system, detoxify, cleanse the colon and kill excess yeast. A few boric acid capsules won't do that though I appreciate his desire to feel like he's helping you to feel better. The absence of his ability to understand the complex changes and lifestyle improvements that you've introduced and how exactly they may make you feel better, does not mean the diet is not good for you. Although many of us grew up holding the doctor's authority as supreme, it really is not up to your doctor to tell you how you will eat is it? If we seek approval where there is no expertise in the subject we seek approval about, can we trust the response? Take care, Tarilee |

Well, you have to love it!
It's amazing actually how little doctors understand about nutrition, when it's the foundation of our health--but I think we've all been there...I say as long as you're feeling better and you feel confident in what you're doing, keep doing it!! Unbelievable... Take good care ladies, Ashley |

Well, I must say that from my own experience, I have lost a lot of faith in medical doctors seeming to know what they're talking about. In almost every example I can think of since this yeast problem started for me, doctors have suggested something that I didn't think would work or that I didn't think was right, and it turned out that I was right in the end! I have learned to trust my own intuition and gut feelings, and I have learned that I am much more open-minded than most doctors. When nothing else seems to work, you learn to be open-minded! It seems that medical doctors are almost limited by their knowledge sometimes, because they think that they know everything there is to know, and anything unfamiliar to them is just plain incorrect! Very close-minded, if you ask me!
I'm sorry if this seems a little blunt or mean, and I'm sure that there are good medical doctors out there who are open-minded - I just haven't met one yet! Just my opinion! |

Unfortunately todays medicine MUST be evidence-based to protect the well being and future of the doctor's career. If it isn't people love to sue. It makes it hard for a doctor to break out and do what might be best for the patient - but perhaps not completely proven. If something negative were to happen, they would be liable. Its unfortunate but 2+2 must =4 in the field of medicine.

It's so true the doctor's who want to reach out and find a more open minded, explorative way to help people must take huge risks in terms of malpractice suits or loss of insurance or even, their license. It's also sadly true that much of the science behind the 'evidence based approach' is tremendously biased on the side of the phamaceutical companies since this is usually the source of the research that is provided to the doctor to help them decide which medication is safest or most effective.
I recently heard a documentary about some scientists who reviewed all of the anti depressant drug research and they found that they were not significantly more effective than placebos. Because the drug companies had not offered these studies to the government for perusal, no one knew the overall perspective of all of the studies put together. Given the review of all the positive, supportive studies that were, of course, the ones the companies chose to submit, it appeared as if these drugs were actually helping people more than they were. This was disturbing as, for many years our medical system has been operating under the assumption that they had all the information they needed about the effectiveness of these drugs. The truth is that our doctors are dealing in a slippery science as they grasp for logical, truly evidence based answers that DO ad up and do match the clinical needs and results that they see in their offices. I know personally of several doctors who are aware of the sorts of severe contradictions that exist in their profession and they are very frustrated working within such a 'house of mirrors.' They are special. They recognize the problems and are on the forefront trying to introduce new ways. They out head of the others, taking risks, learning outside of the major institutions and doing their best to find an unbiased perspective. Some of them will make mistakes as they learn and they will have no safety net to protect them but they believe it is important to step out of this petrified mold that needs replacing. The institutions that should be supporting them will eventually catch up to a more insightful approach. In Canada, our medical schools are just beginning to step away from biased research sources and to embrace the expertise of other types of health practioners as they assess options to integrate into health care. This is happening and it seems as if the development of true health care from our mainstream physicians is in it's infancy. The medical system provides amazing diagnostics (in some cases) and wonderful emergency medicine and surgical options. However right now it is still far from a complete health care system as it does not do a good job of supporting health and preventing disease. It also causes harm when none is necessary in many cases by prescribing drugs when lifestyle, diet or natural, non toxic solutions are possible. TLC |
