This is my version of Helen's Avacado Smoothies that I can never find when I search for the recipe. I bought a hand blender at Goodwill for $2.50 and it makes it so simple.
In the glass: 1 Haas avacado. You could use 1/2, but I go for the gusto! Couple ice cubes added now to soften just a bit while I add the rest. 2 Tbsp Hemp Protein Powder (Not the Shake. No sugar added) 2 Tbsp Tahini 1 Tbsp (or so) of Cocoa 1 tsp or so (to taste) of Stevia/Chicolyn Sometimes I add some Veggie Glycerin, but I'm trying to stick with Stevia for less limits. You may need more stevia because I can't really remember now. Sorry. I always shake in some cinnamon. Very good for you. 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup soy milk (or your favorite) Blend it up. Check sweetness. Drink with a wide straw, because it is think and rich! I also do a blueberry shake since I'm in stage 2. Skip the cocoa and add 1/2 cup blueberries. I tolerate this very well. Hope this helps. I just throw it all together now and look like Frankenstein mixing a brew. Experimenting is good! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Tarilee, |

Thanks, Gay
I don't use veg glycerine in my recipe anymore either. I always make it with carob, so I should try it with cocoa. I also only use water because making milk involves extra work! However, sounds like you get a richer result. You are brave putting in 2 TBSP tahini. I only use 1 dessertspoon (= 2 tsp), but I'm not using any vanilla, which would probably counteract the strong taste. The only good quality vanilla extract available here has alcohol in it. I do use it, but save it for when it's absolutely necessary (i.e. when my cakes taste odd without it!). I did try a cheaper one, from which they had just removed the alcohol and it left a nasty aftertaste. I'd rather use the good stuff, but occasionally! For my shake, I use orange extract instead, but I bet vanilla would be nicer! Helen |

Hi Helen,
Ya know that orange sounds good. I used to eat CANDY (!) that had chocolate and orange. Might have a similar taste. I don't use carob. I feel awful after I eat it. I had something yesterday that I really liked. Cocao Almonds. Not being a cook, I'm not sure how to do it. These only had one gram of sugar, so I bought them, and then found out that it had artificial sweetner!! No wonder they tasted so good! I'm going to try to recreate. It was like they were rolled in cocoa. I haven't ever made spiced nuts, but I'm gonna try this. I think the cocoa and stevia would need a little something extra to cut the cocoa. It's funny about the tahini. The first jar I got I threw away. Now sometimes I add a little stevia and frost my brownies with it. Our tastes do change. I do use vanilla with alcohol. I just haven't searched for the other. Well, we are travelling again to a Santa Convention. We're about to go grab something to eat, which is always an adventure, but I'm doing pretty good with it. It's hard to bypass treats when I won't get back to the Smokey Mountains too soon. I find it never tastes as good as I think it should when I cheat! Hope you're having a great day! Gay |

Gay, those cocoa almonds sound great! I've been melting coconut oil and adding sweetener/cinnamon and then rolling seeds and nuts in it. when it cools the flavor sticks well. I wonder if you rolled the almonds in this and then rolled them in cocoa....my wheels are turning!

Hi Sara, Can't remember if you have an "h" or not.
Yes, I think that sounds like a great idea. I was thinking of some kink of oil. Cocoanut oil would be great. I also thought cinnamon would be a nice addition. Some time ago I saw a recipe for "powdered sugar" using stevia and arrowroot powder I think. Not sure it that's a phase 1 item, but it would give it the look of what I was eating. We don't have these kind of almonds up in the north country where I'm from. Or maybe they're something new, but I never shop in regular stores anymore so I wouldn't know. LOL They were quite tasty though. Do you think they'd need to go in the oven for awhile? I thought it might be "food for thought" for some of you creative gals. 2 AM and I still want to sightsee early tomorrow. Sweet dreams! Gay |

I dont think you'd have to cook them. I would take almonds that had been soaked and then dehydrated, roll in oil/sweetener and then cinnamon and cocoa...then cool.
the powdered sugar sounds delightful. I do a bit of arrowroot in small doses- I dont think it would take much. I'll make these today and let you know! |

the nuts were a huge hit here (not just with us candida sufferers, but with our guests as well). I took almonds that had been soaked and dried, put them in a bowl of melted coconut oil/liquid stevia/veggie glycerin. I then put them on a plate that had cocoa, a touch of cinnamon and powdered stevia and rolled them around. Then I transfered them to a rack to dry a bit before rolling them in a second plate of the dry cocoa mixture to make them more coated. After that I put them in the fridge to cool. Some of them turned out more dusted than others. Some looked more like chocolate covered almonds (which is not a bad thing!). I think if I had let them dry more after being in the C.O., they would have been more like the nuts I was trying to replicate. Either way, they were delicious!
Let me know if you try something else that works! -Sara |

Hi Tarilee-no questions here.
Thanks, Sara for trying to replicate that recipe. Aren't they tasty! Do post the recipe someplace. I'm still in Gatlinburg, and when I get back I'm working 10 days straight with no extra time. Ya know I never soak nuts. If you post the recipe, could you spell out how you do that. Hey Ashley, glad you like the idea of blueberries. I never used to eat them, but they are so good for you. Of course I never used to eat half this stuff. And I felt like crap most of the time. I can't say enough how grateful I am to have found this site!! Happy St. Patricks Day everyone. If anyone happens to see the Holly/Shamrock parade from Gatlinburg tomorrow, my husband is going to be in it. He's Santa! Of course there's about 300 other Santa's there, too!! We're having tons of fun. Gay |

the recipe needs more experimenting- it's good, but I think I can make it even better. Trouble is that my waistline cant afford much experimenting, lol.
You dont soak your nuts/seeds??? You really should- I'm sure you need 1 more thing to do in the kitchen! They should be soaked overnight, just like your grains. This removes the enzyme inhibitor, or something like that. I then dry them in the dehydrator (after rinsing well) so that they are crunchy again and so that they last (if you just soak them they are ok in the refridgerator for only a day I think). glad you're having fun Gay! we all deserve a little fun in our lives! -Sara |
