Hey guys, I tried making a virgin pina colada the other day and it tasted more like a milkshake (a lovely surprise for me). Here's what I used:
light coconut milk (needs to be organic to avoid sulphites and cm can cause cravings or allergic reactions unless from fresh young coconut) vegetable glycerine vanilla flavoring ice cubes Combine them in a blender and you've got a delicious milkshake. I've been craving vanilla milkshakes lately, and this really hit the spot. It does have a mild coconut flavor, but the vanilla was the dominant taste. I've done a search on coconut milk, and as long as it's pure with nothing bad added, it's ok to have (one post said it was an OK item, one said it was a high carb LIMIT item). **For a creamier, more flavorful milkshake, freeze the coconut milk first and reduce the amount of ice you use. **For chocolate, try using the wondercocoa or carob powder ~Tia This message has been edited. Sheryl,
Since I have such a sweet tooth, most of my creativity in the kitchen is directed toward desserts. And when I have things like this, I seriously don't miss regular sweets anymore (well, most if the time at least Cheers, Tia |

Here's another one to try:
Vanilla Orange Shake milk substitute vegetable glycerine orange flavoring vanilla flavoring ice cubes I used soymilk, but I'm trying to get away from soy, so I'll try almond milk next time. Since these milks aren't as rich or creamy as coconut milk, I would freeze most of it to use instead of ice, then use what's left as the liquid base (a couple ice cubes may still be needed for a thicker consistency though). Just blend it up. ~Tia |

Okay gals--let me just say that on a hot summer's day NOTHING can do it for me like a coconut milkshake!! Tahnk you thank you thank you for posting this recipe because I guess I'm fresh out of creativity and this was just what the doctor ordered.
The other day I came across cheap organic coconuts and so mixed the flesh with the juice to make fresh coconut milk. Then my neighbor happened round with a bowl of fresh organic raspberries from her garden and I knew what I had to do! I just used vanilla, ice cubes, the milk, and those gorgeous raspberries and I had the whole darned household running after me for more sips--all it needed was a shot or two of jamaican rum but never mind--it was actually perfect the way it was!!! Thanks again for the ideas!! Ashley |

Thanks for the yummy ideas, ladies. Could you elaborate on the ratios of ingredients?
I'm thinking 1 c. coconut milk (part ice), 1 Tbs.?? glycerine, 1/2 tsp. flavoring. Is that too much or little of glycerine? (I've never used it before) Thank you. Carol |

I'm so glad you guys liked it as much as I did! I tell ya, when I can have one of these, I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out from not being able to eat sugar.
Carol- I have a tendency to make foods/snacks to taste, without exact measurements. This is good and bad for me - I often create better combinations the more I make something, but it's sometimes a pain because it takes a while to replicate the taste. So next time I make this, I will measure it out and post it for you. And if you want to make it in the meantime, just start with small amounts & add on until you reach a taste that you really like. Cheers, Tia |

Just wanted to mention that I tried adding 1-2T. of Wondercocoa and a little extra sweetener to this recipe and I got a WENDY'S FROSTY!! It is my new favorite

Another great addition to these is cold-processed vanilla protein powder! It has no sugar.

Susan - what is the brand of the cold processed vanilla protein powder? I have not been able to find one that looks safe for phase 1.
Thanks! Bella |

Hi gals--let me go ahead and jump on this boat because i just got some nutribiotic brand vegan rice protein and it's marvelous!! It tastes like something that absolutely should be a limit, but that's only because I've used stevia in it!!! In any case, I added vanilla and almond extract, stevia, and a little salt and it's great...

I can't believe I didn't see this before!!! I got some of the vegan rice protein last week because I really really really miss my protein shakes for breakfast. But then I couldn't think of how to make it good, so I haven't even used it yet! LOL...
This sounds perfect! I shall be making a protein shake for breakfast tomorrow... I think I'm going to go for vanilla, I have the good stuff. Where do you get the orange flavoring?? That would be nice, for a change.... |

Hi Minxxa--just one word of caution--I started drinking these TOO much and ended up gaining 5 pounds!! HA! I was wondering where my weight gain was coming from considering I haven't changed a thing in my diet and was at a regular weight before--then I realized--and the thing is I go to the gym 5 days a week!! I guess there was no working off the 100g of protein I was drinking a day!!
It is absolutely delicious though and I think it's a great sub for any sweet drink... |

avocado may be used in place of coconut milk in raw recipes like this. I usually use a bit of extra stevia and sea salt.
