Hi all--
This is an adaptation of Tia's brownie recipe. Since I'm going off of cocoa for a while I thought I'd try this one a different way so here it is... 1/2C ground sunflower seeds 1/4C arrowroot flour 3 T buckwheat flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1 T chicolin/stevia mix 1/4C water 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. lemon extract 2 T veggie glycerin 3/4 T ghee or oil 1 egg, beaten Set oven to 350F, mix wet with dry, put in a greased loaf pan and leave in for about 17 minutes (i have a slow oven so check it yourself after 10 minutes to gage how your's is doing). Let me know how you guys like it. I was pleasantly surprised. It could use a frosting of some kind and Tia told me she came up with a really good one recently, so we'll just have to wait till she posts it! Take care, Ashley This message has been edited. Hi Ashley,
I made these as muffins and they were really good. I haven't used sunflower seeds to bake with yet, so I was wondering how it would taste, but I really liked it. I like an intense lemon flavor so I used 1/8th cup water and 1/8th cup lemon juice. Next time I'll use all lemon juice I think, along with the lemon extract. I'd like to add poppy seeds. Are they allowed? I'm so glad all of you that came before us Newbies experimented with all these good recipes. It has made a tremendous difference in my ability to change my eating habits. Hope you're having a great weekend. Gay |

Poppy seeds are fine as long as you tolerate them so go for it and please post any alterations so we can benefit from your own experience!! Take care, Ashley |

Ya know, I'm so glad others have revealed that their concoctions haven't turned out. I'm not a confident cook, but as soon as I start feeling like I can do it, my muffins come out of the oven CONCAVE! Oh well, they still tasted good. I did add all lemon juice so they do have an extra lemony flavor. The poppy seeds would probably stand out more if I was using that nice white flour that I used to use. LOL ( Like I really used to bake! Hah!)
Ashley, even though my muffins didn't really turn out, that's not the reason I'm posting here. I was looking thru some old posts for some phase 3 info, and of course I ran across alot of your posts. You are so encouraging to new people. You share your experience in such a way that is so comforting and motivating to new people who are so discouraged. Thank you again for helping us all. I didn't know where to put this, so I put it here. I should have startd a new post titled "Who LOVES Ashley!" Gay |

Ashley,
Since I am going grain free now, do you think ground flax seed would work instead of the buckwheat? I sure miss my zucchini muffins. Judith |

You gals are not to be matched anywhere!!!!
I'm coming off a 72 hour shift of caring for an elderly lady who drove me half nuts these past two days. Hearing your words REALLY has taken the edge off!!! As far as using flax seed instead of flour--I just wonder, will you be allowed to use arrowroot flour Judith? It's not technically a grain from my understanding and you may want to check with your new "kirk-man" to see if he'll allow it. I wouldn't use more than 1/4 C in any recipe just because it's a little bit more of a limit. But if you use it in conjunction with seeds and nut flour it will be fine. You know something--I just looked at the recipe that I actually posted above and didn't realize it was the lemon loaf--you must think I'm losing my mind!! HA! Have a good day ladies, Ashley |

I'm a newbie to the forum. I was diagnosed with Candida a few years ago (when I lost a patch of my hair). I followed the diet and I got better, but as a Uni student, easily fell into eating badly. I am back on the diet starting last week and was so thrilled to find this great forum! What an amazing support system.
Anyhow, lemons are my fav and this recipe sounds amazing. Ashley or Tia - where can I find the frosting recipe that is mentioned in the above recipe? Thanks a bunch. Sacha |

Hi Sacha and welcome to the forum!
Tarilee, our moderator, usually doesn't come through the recipe section when she's here--Tuesdays and Fridays. If you have any questions pertaining to candida itself or the protocol outlined on this site, you can post in the three main sections and she'll offer her response. To be honest, I don't know where that frosting recipe is--try doing a search under the "find" function and see if it pops up for you. Tia's not on as much as she used to be, but she sure has amazing recipes--check them out!! Take care, Ashley |

I am new to this site and just love all of the information I have come across...along with so many great recipes!
I just attempted the lemon loaf recipe with some modifications because I too could not find arrowroot flour and forgot the sunflower seeds. I used ground flax meal for the sesame seeds, tapioca flour for the arrowroot, all lemon juice instead of water, and doubled up on the lemon extract because I can't find alcohol-free vanilla yet. It came out better than I thought and would definitely make it again! I had to cook it for 25 minutes with my oven. |

i just tried this for the first time (although i have been meaning to make it for months). it was good. i don't have veggie glycerine, so i left it out. i used 1/4c lemon juice and 1 tsp orange flavouring (frontier brand).
is the loaf supposed to rise though? mine didn't rise at all. the texture is nice, light and fluffy anyways. i will make it again, as more than half of it is already gone into my tummy! thanks! |

there doesn't seem to be much dry ingredients in this - only 3/4 cup. is that right?
how many muffins does it make? most recipes i've been making have twice this much... |

Ashley - this looks awesome! I too need to cut back on my cocoa consumption. It makes my stomach a little raw. Thanks for the post! I am going to it today!

I just made these yesterday, as mini-muffins. They were so-so out of the oven. I ate 4 and froze the rest... well, I pull some out today and I like the taste better frozen! Mine rose pretty well, and had a nice spongy texture, so they're not at all hard when frozen. Thumbs up!
(I think I must be a frozen food freak... the craziest food I used to eat frozen was waffles with betty crocker cake icing when I was 10 (sooooooo unhealthy I know). And I always thought pizza tasted best cold. LOL) |

Hi Deeb and Welcome!
This is one of my favorite recipes, one I've been craving! I will have to try them frozen! I like that it's a simple recipe and only uses one egg! Let us know how you're doing. This is a very supportive place to be. I feel so much better after finding this site. It bordering a miracle to me! Glad you're here! GayAnn |

Made these again, with alcohol-free almond extract instead and my new bottle of vanilla powder.
Rose well again. I didn't note the changes in my last post, but I've been leaving the glycerine out (the local Whole Foods apparently does not carry it!!!?), putting in 1 T oil (instead of 3/4 T), using a little over 1 T arrowroot to avoid limits, and using just 1 1/2 Tsp stevia since I don't have Chicolin. The changes seem to work well for me. Thanks for the welcome Gail! |

Hello Everyone,
I am also very new to this site. I’ve been on the Candida diet for just about a month now and have tried to experiment with so many dessert recipes and failed that i am pretty discouraged. Lemon poppy seed loaf is one of my FAVORITE things in the world. Second cup here in Canada serves it with a cream cheese glaze /frosting...SO amazing. I can't for the life of my find veg glycerine... I've been to all the natural food stores in Ottawa and can't find it. guh... What can I put in as a substitute? Also, what is Chicolin? is it the same as just using spoonable stevia powder? Last question, I am sensitive to eggs, can I use a flax seed substitute? Thank you for your help! Amarillis |

Welcome to the forum.
This is one of my favorite recipes. I actually add more lemon juice instead of the water. I haven't used flax gel, but maybe I can help with the sweetners. I use the stevia and chicolin sold on this site. Many of the recipes use it. You buy them separately and when you get them, you dump the small stevia jar into the bigger chicolin jar. Then shake like crazy. When I reorder I save the old chicolin jar and put half in each. (The new jar and the old jar). I think I get it mixed better with not so much in the jar. It will make sense if you order. Veggie glycerin is sometimes in the health and beauty section. I have found the Now brand, which is in a purple bottle. The Frontier brand is usually by the spices. It's a little more expensive. Ashley, one of our "young" old timers here, gets the Now brand online. When you use all three of these you get pretty tasty results. Hang in there! It's confusing at first, but well worth the effort. Good health is such a wonderful thing! Let us know how you're doing! Gay |
