Hi folks,

Welcome to the recipe sections of the forums. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to the inspirational, mutual support that makes up these forums. In the case of the recipe sections of the forum, this mutal support is offered through the sharing of healing culinary ideas. In this section you'll find recipes that include some of the ingredients that were restricted in the earlier stage of the Whole Approach food therapy guidelines. I want to reassure you that many people feel so good on the stage I guidelines that they choose to maintain them for their whole program. The stage I food therapy approach can be healthfully sustained throughout the program and beyond and to do so, may in fact, enhance your healing capacity. If you choose to introduce some of the stage II and III foods as are found in the following recipes, do take care to observe yourself carefully and make sure that you are ready to make the transition. Also keep in mind that when discontinuing a therapeutic diet many people discover that they've had hidden allergies that they may have suffered from for a long time. Stay in tune with how your body is responding to these foods as you eat them again and be sure to use your diet diary to help you keep track.

In the following post I'll attempt to explain the organization of the recipe sections in order to help you use them most effectively.

As you up open each recipe, you will notice that the recipes are ‘coded’ with different icons. I have sorted through them all and done my best to systematically apply a simple categorization to them. Basically, the category assigned to each recipe depends upon how healthy I consider the ingredients and the preparation methods used to prepare it. If I considered it overall to be a healthy recipe, I’ve ‘tagged’ it with a thumbs up icon. If it seems to contain, or be based around some questionable ingredients, I’ve marked it with a question mark. Below I will describe what I mean by “questionable ingredients.”

Many of these recipes include some ingredients that are not particularly ideal foods for folks with allergies, folks with candida or healthful eating in general. As I sorted the recipes, any ingredient that I found to be in question, I have done one of two things with. I may have simply replaced the ingredient in question with an easy replacement that I know to be interchangeable with that ingredient. Alternately I may have put an asterisk beside it. The asterisks are to direct you to the post entitled “Questionable Foods for the Candida Food Therapy Program”

As I mentioned above, if a recipe is largely based around a questionable food, if it contains a highly questionable food or if it contains several of these questionable ingredients, it will be marked with a question mark icon. I did not automatically label a recipe with a question mark icon just because it contained questionable ingredients. There are a number of thumbs up recipes that include what I call questionable ingredients. Some of these I still marked as “thumbs up” because, although the recipe would not be right for some folks, it might be healthy for others. Also, with the guidance provided in the references that correspond to the asterisks in these recipes, it may be possible to make changes that will remove the objectionable ingredients that I tagged. Considerations regarding questionable foods for this list of foods.

Consuming too many of these questionable foods or consuming them often, can create various problems. You may find that these ingredients suppress your healing and can also trigger binges, inflammation, or create excess mucous. If you find that you are regularly using recipes that contain one or more of these ingredients of concern; it may be time to take a step back and reassess your choices. Remember “Nothing tastes as good as health feels!”

Happy Culinary Adventuring!
