Hey guys,
I found an awesome website that has quite the variety of flours, alcohol/sugar-free flavorings, etc (if I get permission, I'll post the web address). I was about to place my order (I'm ordering a few items that I need right away), and I would like to try out some new flours, but I don't know what to get. They have all types of gluten-free flours: garbanzo bean, fava bean, black bean, white bean, green pea, potato, quinoa, amaranth, sweet white sorghum, tapioca, and all-purpose flour (blend of potato, tapioca, garbanzo, & fava bean flours). I haven't ever baked with any of these, so I was hoping to get some input. Favorites anyone? And are all these flours ok to eat? Are garbanzos & chickpeas the same thing? I would like to try that flatbread recipe of joejoe's, which calls for chickpea flour. Suggestions? Thanks, Tia |

Hey Tia...those flatbreads of Joejoe's are great...if you make them with lots of green onions and garlic and cayenne pepper, they make a nice savoury snack, great for dipping into guacomole. Keep in mind that they are made from beans and should be limited if your digestion isn't that great.
I have heard other forum members say that quinoa and amaranth can cause digestive problems, I have only tried the amaranth flour and to me it tastes like dirt. You can also make the East Indian snack called pakoras with the chickpea flour, they are good too. I will look for a recipe for them as well. Enjoy! Sandi |

Hi Tia,
Yes, garbanzo beans and chick peas ARE the same thing. The all purpose blend sounds very interesting and you can use all of those flours as tolerated except for sweet sorghum. As for posting the site, if you send it to me I'll check it out and post it in the Featured products and other resources section. Thanks for letting us know about this! Please forward the site address to me via Linda at Lindak@wholeapproach.com. Cheers Tari-Lee |

Tia,
It IS so nice to see your "lovely" picture. and i mean that..lovely. Isn't it amazing how "healthy" we all look??!! What makes me sad is to see soo many of you "young women suffering with all of this. I can just imagine how hard it would be to stick with the program..with kids, a family, school, and work! I really admire you gals!! jan |

Thanks guys! You never fail to make me smile & feel so welcome here. I had a hard time getting the picture on here, which is why it took me so long to add one. I finally had to have my boyfriend do it for me b/c I was having no such luck. It is definitely nice to see everyone, it just adds to the effect of feeling like I know all of you really well...and in a way, I kind of do. I hope we really do have a meet and greet some day...
I think I'm going to use my brownie recipe for a cake, I just need to make it a little fluffier. And I think I've come up with a simple, but tasty frosting, just in need of a little work. If it works out, I'll let you know. ~Tia |

Hey Tia,
You were supposed to post a picture of your feet. If your toes are really that weird your face makes up for it, nice picture. leon |

Now there's a challenge for someone who used to be sensitive about her strange toes...to post a photo of them on a public forum!! Heee, you're funny Leon. I'd much rather see Tia's gorgeous face but Tia, if you feel it would be a good opportunity that you feel the desire to take advantage of...by all means...

Leon,
my thoughts exactly! But with such a beautiful face, what guy would care if she had 6 toes on each foot??!! jan p.s. i agree with you going with the brownie cake. i've had the lemon one, and it's well, it's good, i made it once, and wouldn't make it again to be honest. It just didn't HIT the sweet tooth for me. |

Hi Ruthie,
It’s nice to see your sweet face. Thanks for posting your photo. We love to see our members! No, unfortunately the site you’re asking about could not be posted. If you want the address, you can email Tia directly to get it (if she's got her address listed). I prefer to make my own bean flour (using a grain mill or a Vitamix, dry) because it’s important to me to use only very fresh flours. If I do shop for them pre-ground and retail, bean and grain flours are something I like to sniff before I buy them since they go rancid quickly. Purchasing them via the web is like purchasing produce via the web (you can't squeeze the peaches). Having said all this, this is not why the site isn't listed. I'll explain. As most of you know, this site is supported almost exclusively by product sales from the online store. All of the costs of maintaining and moderating the forum are paid by WholeApproach from product sales and a very small number of voluntary subscription payments. Linda donates tons of hours and resources to keep everything afloat. Because this forum relies on product sales to keep it open, we encourage folks to purchase products from this website. We had to make the difficult decision not to offer links to websites that sell competing products or have links to competitor retailers that sell the same merchandise as Whole Approach. When we took a look at the site Tia had found to see if we could approve it and post it in our Featured Products and Other Resources website section, we found that it had links to websites selling competitive products and so we did not list it. Sorry guys. We do our best to help you to access to valuable resources and we regret having to place limits on this. Although we try to have as few "policies" as possible, this one is directly related to the survival of this online community. We appreciate your understanding around the need to maintain this restriction. For those of you who may not know, voluntary subscription fees are a way that members who are customers and non-customers can support the forum to help keep it open. You can click on the "Forum Subscription" button at the top of the page any time you want to support Whole Approach. The forum has been in a very challening financial situation for months now and it's future is uncertain. Any support that you can provide is more than welcome. If you want to check out the sites that ARE listed, you can find them via this link:Helpful Websites for a Holistic Lifestyle Cheers, Tari-Lee This message has been edited. Last edited by: Tarilee, |

Thank you, I will stick to what is offered here, I actually like the idea of making my own flour. I'm just not as domestic as I need to be with this diet... Am learning!!
Thank You Again Tari-Lee Ruthie |

Good for you.
You say you need to become more "domestic". I have always considered myself a "liberated" woman and I personally somehow object to that term. We domesticate animals, but women and men? Lots of us talk about becoming more domestic when we are learning to take better care of themselves and choose healthier, more energy/health-conscious options. I think this just makes us wiser, more practical,...maybe more "domestic" too but definitely wiser. I find that the picture of someone "domestic", in my mind suggests, somehow boring, as if...being out of the house and on the go eating fast food or other less conscious choices is somehow, less boring? Ok, now, I'm just rambling. Perhaps on some level others react negatively to the term "domestic" as well. If so, I suggest just thinking of yoruself as getting wiser (and likely smarter too, with all that good brain food and a clean body to go with it!). Whatever you choose to call it, keep up the great work! Cheers Ruthie, TLC |
