Zymitol or Digesticol?

We are often asked the question “What is the difference between Zymitol and Digesticol and how do I know which one I should take or if I need both?”
I'll offer you both the short answer to this question and then the long answer. Zymitol is an anti-inflammatory systemic enzyme blend. It’s taken on an empty stomach in order to help “eat away” inflammation of a variety of causes. It’s been shown to be helpful in everything from lung inflammation to joint inflammation to intestinal inflammation.

Digesticol is the enzyme blend that helps your digestive tract break down your food into absorbable nutrients even when your digestive health is compromised as is common in CRC. This is the only digestive enzyme I’ve ever seen that has no additives whatsoever and that truly works with just one capsule. In my experience, it’s the most powerful digestive enzyme that I’ve ever tried and after over eleven years in the health food industry, I’ve tried close to every enzyme on the Canadian market and we have quite a few. Below I’ve included the product information for Zymitol, followed by the product information for Digesticol and then a few links to related posts. I hope that this will be useful to those of you who are trying to sort out which products to use.

Cheers,

Tari-Lee

ZYMITOL

ZymitolTM is a broad spectrum systemic enzyme, antioxidant, flavonoid, and organic sulfur formulation designed to ease the symptoms of aging while balancing your body's normal processes all delivered to your body via its proprietary CDS (controlled delivery system).

Enzymes sustain life. Without them, we could not exist. They are catalysts for virtually every biological and chemical reaction in the body.

Is a systemic enzyme combination product like Zymitol™ a necessity?

One may question whether a dietary supplement is necessary to acquire proper nutrient intake, but if you consider the following, we are sure you will agree that supplementation of ZymitolTM may promote a higher quality of life.

As we approach our late twenties, our body's production of enzymes slows, and by the time we reach our forties, our body's production of key antioxidants drastically reduces. To top it off, flavonoids and organic sulfurs are not even produced by our body. The best external source for enzymes, antioxidants and flavonoids is raw and living foods that are not processed, dried, cooked or preserved. Cooked food is virtually absent of enzymes and may reduce the presence of antioxidants, flavonoids and sulfurs. Cooking also changes the molecular structure of food, making it difficult for our bbody to properly digest and eliminate it. We know that complete digestion and proper elimination of what we ingest are critical in maintaining optimum health. In summary, if you eat primarily cooked foods, your body may not be able to process that food efficiently. This would be one of the many reasons you may be a prime candidate for ZymitolTM.

Proteolytic Enzymes
Bromelain is a powerful protein digesting, or "proteolytic" enzyme. It is extracted from the stem of pineapple. The Bromelain in ZymitolTM can help to promote a healthy lifestyle. Unlike most enzymes, Bromelain is active both in the acid environment of the stomach and the alkaline environment of the small intestine. Bromelain may guard against the formation of fibrin, and once in the blood, it may promote normal inflammation levels, maintain healthy blood flow, and may support the immune system. Bromelain appears to be essentially nontoxic, and it seldom causes side effects other than occasional mild gastrointestinal distress or allergic reactions.

Protease is another form of enzymes which demonstrates the ability to breakdown protein. Its role is critical as incomplete protein digestion creates problems for the body including development of allergies and formation of toxic substances. Undigested proteins may also pass through the body and remain undigested. These undigested proteins have been linked to many health concerns and foreign invaders in the intestinal tract. Some of these foreign invaders are parasites. Protease is largely responsible for keeping the small intestines free from parasites. A lack of protease increases the risk of intestinal infection including an overgrowth of the yeast Candida. Protease also delivers the specific nutrients necessary to promote healthy muscle and tissue, as well as for vibrant immune system function. As a rule, enzymes do not attack living cells. Enzymes are generally unable to pass through the cell wall when the cell is alive. However, as soon as a cell dies, its wall becomes permeable, so enzymes can easily enter the cell.

Papain is a proteolytic enzyme derived from the papaya. It is capable of cleaving and splicing proteins and peptides into free form amino acids, which are necessary for many biochemical reactions in the body. Papain is also useful in the elimination of parasites in the gastrointestinal tract by simply digesting them. Papain has acquired the reputation of a new "biological scalpel" because it selectively digests dead tissue without affecting the surrounding live tissue. Papain comes to the rescue when the body requires a cleansing of the dead cellular material.

Lipolytic Enzymes
Lipase is an enzyme that is required by the body to break down dietary fats into an absorbable form. Fats are the most difficult component of the diet to digest and fatty foods are responsible for more indigestion than proteins or starches Although Lipase helps to breakdown fats, it doesn't damage fat-soluble vitamins or the unsaturated fatty acids in GLA, DHA, and EPA. Essential fatty acids are required to maintain cell energy and sustain life. Lipase converts dietary fats into essential fatty acids. As we age our body alters the production of key enzymes like lipase, leaving the door open for fatty acid imbalance. Fatty acid imbalance may lead to many common discomforts and ailments associated with aging. Supplementation of lipase, like the enzyme found in Zymitol may bridge this enzyme gap, promoting a healthier more fulfilling lifestyle. Lipase controls the amount of fat being synthesized, reducing fat stores and in sufficient quantities, it can help move stored fat to be burned as fuel. It will not only activate this burning of the stored body fat but may also effectively inhibit fat storage all together.

Amylolytic Enzymes
Amylase refers to a group of enzymes whose function is to hydrolyze (breakdown) sugar and starch (carbohydrates). If carbohydrates are not properly hydrolyzed, the potential for serious health concerns may develop. Amylase also acts with Protease to stimulate immune system function. It also works with lipase to digest certain toxins. We know that our body begins to produce considerably less amylase and fewer other enzymes as we grown older. Our body switches from continual enzyme production, to a mode which may lay in wait for food to enter the body to initiate certain enzyme production responses. If we supplement with Zymitol then some of the burden on the body to produce extra enzymes will be relieved.

Serrapeptase: A Natural Anti-Inflammatory
Serrapeptase is also proteolytic enzyme and is found in negligible amounts in the urine, suggesting that it is transported directly from the intestine into the bloodstream. Clinical studies show that serrapeptase induces fibrinolytic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edemic (prevents swelling and fluid retention) activity in a number of tissues, and that its anti-inflammatory effects are superior to other proteolytic enzymes. Besides reducing inflammation, one of serrapeptase's most profound benefits is reduction of pain, due to its ability to block the release of pain-inducing amines from inflamed tissues. Physicians throughout Europe and Asia have recognized the anti-inflammatory and pain-blocking benefits of this naturally occurring substance and are using it in treatment as an alternative to salicylates, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDs.

Cystic Breast Disease
Serrapeptase has also been used in the successful treatment of fibrocystic breast disease. In a double-blind study, 70 patients complaining of breast engorgement randomly were divided into a treatment group and a placebo group. Serrapeptase was superior to the placebo for improvement of breast pain, breast swelling and induration (firmness). Eighty-five percent of the patients receiving serrapeptase reported moderate to marked improvement. No adverse reactions to serrapeptase were reported and the researchers concluded that "serrapeptase is a safe and effective method for the treatment of breast engorgement."

Serrapeptase and Sinusitis
Due to its inflammatory properties, serrapeptase has been shown in clinical studies to benefit chronic sinusitis sufferers. In this condition, the mucus in patients' nasal cavities is thickened and hyper secreted. This thickening causes mucus to be expelled less frequently. Japanese researchers evaluated the effects of serratiopeptidase on the elasticity and viscosity of the nasal mucus in adult patients with chronic sinusitis. Serratiopeptidase reduced the viscosity of the mucus, improving the elimination of bronchopulmonary secretions.

Respiratory diseases are characterized by increased production of a more dense mucus modified in viscosity and elasticity. Traditionally, in respiratory diseases, muco-active drugs are prescribed to reestablish the physicochemical characteristics of the mucus in order to restore respiratory function. Some of these drugs, however, cause a functional depletion of mucus, whereas Serrapeptase alters the elasticity of mucus without depleting it.

Cardiovascular Implications
Hans A. Nieper, M.D., an internist from Hannover, Germany, studied the effects of serrapeptase on plaque accumulations in the arteries. The formation of plaque involves deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, calcium and fibrin (a clotting material in the blood) on the inner lining of the arteries. Excessive plaque results in partial or complete blockage of the blood's flow through an artery, resulting in arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, and an ensuing stroke or heart attack. The evidence to support serrapeptase's role in preventing plaque build-up is anecdotal. Still, further studies are called for in this area as Nieper's research indicated that the protein-dissolving action of serrapeptase will gradually break down atherosclerotic plaques.

Why do we need antioxidants?
Antioxidants provide your body a defense at the cellular level by stabilizing or deactivating free radicals before they attack cells.
Antioxidants: Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like antioxidant, sometimes referred to as the "universal antioxidant." It is readily absorbed by the body as a supplement. ALA is both fat and water soluble, which enables it to function in many different tissues providing you with protection against the oxidative damage of free radicals.

ALA may also promote healthy blood flow to nerves which may promote normal transmission of nerve impulses. It is also capable of binding and helping to eliminate heavy metals, repairing damaged molecules and may also promote healthy liver function.

ALA has the unique ability to directly recycle, re-activate and extend the lifespan of other antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, Glutathione, and Coenzyme Q10, creating an antioxidant framework that is second to none.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a component of several human enzyme systems, functioning to convert food into energy. This hard working nutrient breaks down food and impedes fat production by redirecting calories to be used as energy.

What is organic sulfur?
MSM supplies biologically active sulfur. Sulfur is a necessary building block for enzymes, proteins and connective tissues, and may assist the body with many other functions.

MSM or methylsulfonylmethane is a natural form of organic sulfur and is the prime source of bio-available sulfur, which is lost from our food by processing, drying, cooking and preserving. The body utilizes MSM for proper enzyme activity and hormone balance support, along with the promoting proper immune system functions.

MSM is a component of over 150 compounds and is a building block for proteins, especially those found in the hair, muscles, and connective tissue of the joints and skin. It promotes and maintains a healthy stomach and digestive tract, healthy circulation, cell vitality, and absorption. MSM also promotes healthy joints and helps maintain healthy circulation.

MSM promotes and maintains the ability of the body to eliminate wastes and toxins at the cellular level, where good health begins.

Flavonoids
Flavonoids are a class of water soluble plant pigments that may deliver potent antioxidant support and may promote normal, healthy cellular tissue throughout the body.

Rutin is a water-soluble, plant pigment bioflavonoid found mainly in buckwheat but is present in many other plants, including eucalyptus leaves, rosehip, and blue violet leaves. Rutin may help to maintain normal, healthy digestive functions. It is active in preserving the structures of capillaries and it has an antibacterial effect. It may promote healthy circulation.

Rutin is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for cell damage and destruction. Rutin has the unique ability to improve capillaries and veins and it supports the enhanced regeneration capacity of human body tissues. Rutin also seems to have a protective effect against syndromes that lower the body's oxygen supply.

Bioflavonoids are thought to enhance the absorption of Vitamin C, and possibly to prolong the effectiveness of it as well. Like all of the other ingredients of Zymitol, Rutin promotes healthy aging.

ZymitolTM is natural and is free of animal derivatives, artificial color, artificial flavor, corn, gluten, lactose, preservatives, salt, soy, sugar, talc, and yeast.

Cellulase - enzymes that hydrolyze cellulose, which constitutes the chief part of the cell walls of plants.

Fulvid Acid - is a transporter of energy-rich and bio-electrically charged nutrients and minerals. The fulvic acid electrolytes greatly increase the percentage rate of absorption of minerals, nutrients, vitamins, and herbs into the circulatory system. From there, they carry life force energetic compounds to and easily through the cell membrane, across the cytoplasm and directly to the nucleus of the cell.

G+ Protease - Generation Plus's blend of sophisticated protease that hydrolyzes proteins. These proprietary enzymes were specifically designed to effectively break down the widest range of dietary protein.

Ginger Root - stimulates natural digestion and may reduce bloating, bowel disorders, cramping diarrhea, gas pains, indigestion and spasms. Ginger may also cleanse the colon and provide support for the cardiovascular system.

Glucoamylase - an enzyme that breaks down sugars and starches into their most usable forms. Glucoamylase breaks down every glucosidic bond in polysaccharides like starch and glycogen.

Hemicellulase - enzymes that hydrolyze complex polysaccharides known as hemicelluloses, the compounds that may decrease the rate of absorption for certain nutrients. It may also increase protein absorption from grains and may promote proper fiber component degradation in the intestinal tract.

Invertase - enzymes that breakdown table sugar into glucose and fructose, which promotes a reduction in intestinal discomfort.

L-Glutamine - an amino acid, which may buffer poisonous wastes and eliminate them from the body. It helps to maintain a healthy digestive tract, and prevents degradation of intestinal lining. Digestion and normal intestinal function are also dependent upon sufficient quantities of glutamine.
