Is the candida diet essential to my recovery?
Diet plays a very important part in the recovery process. The foods that promote yeast growth need to be eliminated during the initial stages of the program (at least three months). You can find a list of foods to avoid and foods to eat freely on the Diet pages of this web site. Prior to starting the Attogram program, take the symptom assessment test in the book, Conquering yeast Infections, the Non Drug Solution for Men and Women. Your score will help you determine the severity of your symptoms and will be valuable in charting your progress. Take the test at least every three months (at the end of each phase) and more often if your symptoms are severe. The more you restrict ‘candida feeders’ in your diet, the faster you will recover. Since everyone is so different, the diet needs to be customized to your own individual needs. The diet recommendations on this web site are only a starting point. Eliminating foods that contain sugar (in all forms including fruits), alcohol, yeast, vinegars, dairy products, white flour and fermented foods from your diet is essential. Pay close attention to food combining rules and if food allergies and indigestion still exist, it may be necessary to practice a rotational diet such as the one described below. While on the rotational diet, it may also be helpful to keep a food diary of what you eat each day in the rotation and what your symptoms are throughout the day. The rotational diet will help you to identify food allergies and sensitivities. There are some good books available to help guide you through planning and implementing the rotational diet. Two of our favorites are: Allergy and Candida Cooking Made Easy, by Sondra Lewis and Sally Rockwells Rotational Cookbook by Sally Rockwell. After the first three months, you may try to add fruit back into the diet. We recommend starting with tart apples, berries or tart cherries; trying only one small serving on an empty stomach without eating anything else at least one hour before or two hours after. Bananas and grapes are very sweet and should be avoided or used only occasionally until you have recovered. The changes to your diet can be difficult at first and many avoid beginning treatment because they doubt their ability to stick to the recommended candida-control diet. This forum can offer some support and encouragement and I want you to know from personal experience – this diet should not keep you from enjoying meals, entertaining, holidays, eating out or traveling. Please see our cookbook recommendations on the Book Shop page of our forum and visit the recipe sections of our forum. As you discover new foods and the positive effects they have on your energy, health and mood, you will begin to experience the excitement of this healing journey. Also read the Is Diet Important? article from our Newsletter page. Do you recommend starting the diet before starting the products? Yes, if you feel the diet will represent a significant adjustment for you then you would be wise to take the gentle-on-yourself approach and give yourself a couple of weeks to change your diet before beginning the Caproyl. You can use one of two possible transitionary approaches. Transition A The first option is to start the diet and the fibre, Bentonite and Probioplus (but not the Capryol), working the dosages of each very slowly up to the maximum dose according to your tolerance and bowel response. The idea is to increase the dosages gradually enough that you can maintain your normal, healthy bowel regularity through the transition. If you are prone to constipation, you'll want to take this process very, very gradually and you’ll also need to pay particular attention to water intake. Increased water consumption is crucial to keep the fibre drink lubricated so that it moves easily through the intestines. Once you’ve adjusted to your diet changes and your fibre drink, you can add the anti-fungal Caproyl, starting at approximately a quarter teaspoon and very, very slowly increasing your dosage according to how you much die off you experience. For more information on negotiating with die off effectively, see this article: Candida Die-Off: Your Healing Friend and Foe Transition B If you want to take an even gradual approach, you can start your diet for two weeks and use only Probioplus (between meals). After you’ve concentrated on your initial adjustments to your new diet approach, you can begin the gradual introduction of the products as described above in transition A.
