Can I use the ingredients of the Phase I "Purge Drink" products while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The main concern about this type of program during pregnancy is that it has the potential to change bowel function. Although government regulations require that it be labeled as a laxative, the particular blend of PSYLLIUM used in the Attogram program does not typically loosen the stools. It contains a high percentage of ground PSYLLIUM seed, which is very bulking, and a lower percentage of PSYLLIUM husks, which is the PSYLLIUM product commonly known as a lubricative laxative. In the first trimester of pregnancy, laxative products and anything causing diarrhea must be avoided as diarrhea can stimulate a spontaneous abortion. Although the Attogram Candida Purge drink is not particularly laxative, its function is to detoxify the colon and purge excess Candida and for some people, loosened stools may be experienced in response to detoxification. Pregnant women who choose to undertake Candida treatment during this period must be very cautious about this possibility. The amount of Attogram products combined in the drink mixture should be increased very gradually. For example, one would start with one-quarter or less of the full dose and over a period of two to four weeks build up to the full dose in small increments while carefully monitoring bowel function. At the first sign of any stool loosening, the product should be discontinued. This issue is not of concern during lactation. Pregnancy/Lactation: To treat or not to treat Candida? Candida yeast living in the body releases a number of by-products that are toxic to humans. These toxins create constant stress on the immune system. Unfortunately, during the process of purging the body of Candida, the dying Candida yeast release even more toxins and the levels of these poisons can rise to remarkably high levels, especially when the process is rushed. As always in the case of pregnancy and lactation, there is a concern about exposing the developing child to chemicals. It is not known what levels of candida by-products are safe to have circulating in the mother's body, nor is it known what sort of effect they could have on the baby. The "Catch 22" - The problem of whether to attempt to resolve Candidiasis in the pregnant or lactating women is a sort of "Catch 22". It is certainly not conducive to a healthy pregnancy to allow a Candida problem to rage out of control but it can also be difficult to healthfully reduce Candida levels during pregnancy. Large populations of Candida living in the mother's body interfere with nutritional and immune health, both of which are essential to nourish and protect both the mother and fetus during pregnancy. Candidiasis can result in significant problems for both mother and child including malnutrition, susceptibility to other illnesses, or intestinal toxemia. If you are pregnant or lactating and you have Candiasis, do not undertake any anti-fungal therapy without consulting a well-qualified naturopathic doctor or herbalist. An experienced naturopathic doctor, herbalist, or holistic physician will be able to guide you through your program safely, and with the least stress possible for you and your baby. An experienced herbalist or naturopathic doctor can also prescribe many herbs to support cleansing that are safe during pregnancy. The safety of the SBX and Olive Leaf Extract during pregnancy and lactation have not been established. Consult your practitioner before using these or other herbal products. If you are not under the care of a professional but wish to gently support your body, the Attogram PSYLLIUM (used with caution-see section above on diarrhea), the Attogram BENTONITE and the DDS Acidophilus can work to reduce your toxic load by removing some of the waste from the colon. Note: The ingredients in phase one of the program have been established as safe in the case of pregnancy or breastfeeding but not all of the anti-fungals for the later phases have been established as safe. Although you can safely use the psyllium, bentonite and Probioplus with the above-described cautions, please consult with your health care provider about the use of the anti-fungals in stages two through five.
