I understand the liver may need cleansing support during the program. How is this best accomplished?

This thread is under construction. It will be a compilation thread. Right now it just contains various quotes from different times and places on the forum. I'll be working at it gradually to turn it into a more comprehensive work.

Thanks for your patience.

Here is a link to an article that describes the benefits of using Milk Thistle.

Article about Milk Thistle

Saint Francis Herb Farm makes a wonderful Milk Thistle combination tincture. It has more cleansing properties than milk thistle alone so needs to be used at an appropriate time and with respect for its ability to mobilize toxins from the body.Milk Thistle Combo Tincture

There is a great book called Natural Liver Therapy by Christopher Hobbs and it mentions many differnt approaches to cleansing the liver - from the gentle to the agressive.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to stay connected with your acupunturist or naturopath so that he/she can supervise you during your liver detox. Good luck with it.

If rushed, it can bring on symptoms of flu. Emotional rawness is also common as it seems to act cathartically. If you feel anger, irritability or depression, these may be signs that you are moving some congestion out of your liver.

The oil, garlic and lemon juice liver flush that I posted the other day can create a strong detox./healing response and may make you feel quite pootly. If you are already feeling unwell, you may be better off to talk to your herbal practitioner or other qualified expert to help you choose a gentle herbal/kidney herbal detoxification product. Just like it is important to kill off the yeast gradually, it is also crucial that you undertake this kind of cleansing gently.

Anything that triggers activity in the liver can promote transitory depression, irritability or anger. Do you rememer the now rather outdated term, 'liverish'? If you look it up in the dictionary it will say short tempered or irritable. There are many old sayings in our language that denote a now all but lost awareness of the way our body affects our emotions.

Take it easy on the cleansing, starting slow. Drink lots of water. Also, make sure you take it at night if you are only doing it once a day. Between eleven and two, our liver does the most cleansing. It's good to start with the bedtime dose and later increase to add one or more further doses during the day to be taken on an empty stomach.

The liver in particular is most active in it's cleansing between eleven pm and two am so a cup a tea before bed and in the morning may both be a good idea. Maybe try the first one in the evening and if that goes well, you could also have one in the morning.

This herbal blend and the quality make an excellent, gentle detoxifier. They are a wise complement to the whole candida detoxification process because the herbs help to speed up the removal of wastes from our whole body. The Daily Detox teas are quite strong and should be viewed as medicinal. It's a good idea with any medicinal herbs to take a break from using them at least one week out of every month. When you do this you prevent any potential build up of the herbs in your organs and the tea will be more effective than if you drank it every single day.

We recommend starting slowly with the Daily Detox by drinking one a day and then very slowly working your way up to two or three cups per day.

Are you feeling aches and pains or fatigue and flu like symptoms near the beginning of your program? You may be experiencing die off, or you may be detoxifying. Most likely, you are feeling a bit of both.

Hang in there! The first few weeks are the hardest. Everyone on this site will attest to that. Even if you have an initial lift in your energy, the almost inevitable die off can certainly make one consider quitting. The Attogram program stimulates some deep cleansing and purging of imbedded candida that no other program can get to. Because of its thorough effect, it can have its challenges for sure. Stick to the program, write down all the foods you eat in your diet diary so that you can be sure to pick up any food intolerances that could potentially be contributing to your symptoms.

Also, keep in mind that by nature of the restrictions of the candida diet, you are likely eating a cleaner, healthier diet than normally. Depending on how much of a difference it is for you compared to your normal fare, you may also be doing some general body cleansing. Detoxification is an important part of any road to health and is particularly important when recovery from candida because your immune system needs a break. Reducing the overall toxic load on the body will help to lift the strain off your immune system so that your body can focus on important healing mechanisms. A cleaner body also feels better. Toxins interfere with and sometimes mimic hormones. Your endocrine system with all its subtle balances and ratios of hormones will function more efficiently and naturally when toxins are less present. In addition to greater energy, you are likely to experience a clearer mind, healthier skin, clearer looking eyes and a better mood.

However, enduring the discomfort of detoxification is not fun. In order to remove them from our bodies we need to first mobilize them out of our tissues thus creating a temporary toxicity. This presents a “catch 22” since we actually have to feel a bit worse before we feel better just so that we can flush them out of bodies. Having just outlined the importance of getting these waste materials out of the body, please don’t try to be “a hero” when it comes to cleansing. Your eliminative organs may be congested and may take time to flush out the wastes that you are releasing. Please do some searching on our archives about detoxification, liver cleansing and die off and you will find a whole lot more relevant information to help you through this. The Newsletter section has an article on Die Off that offers some really specific advice on managing this inevitable phenomenon comfortably. There is also a little book on the subject of natural liver care that may be helpful to you on your journey towards a cleaner body (Bejamin Hobbs, Natural Therapy for your Liver)

Don’t forget to drink lots of purified water and you might also try the simple lemon and water remedy. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass of warm water and drink on an empty stomach first thing in the am or just before bed.

The Whole Approach store now sells Daily Detox Tea and Milk Thistle Combo. Taking these during your program will greatly assist your body’s eliminative functions. These teas can also provide a helpful strategy to utlize if you are feeling a healing crisis due to detoxification or die off. Drinking a moderate amount of it (one to three cups a day) can help your body flush out circulating toxins more quickly and efficiently. The Milk Thistle Combo focuses on liver health and is more potent than the teas. As with all natural rememdies related to cleansing, it’s best to start your dosage very low and gradually increase according to how you’re feeling (similar to the way we negotiate with die off.) For more information on healing crises or on the die off phenomenon, see the article links below.

Happy Yeast Busting and Happy Detoxification guys!

Liver functions
The liver is the most important organ after the heart. It performs hundreds of functions including:

Circulation: transfer of blood from portal to systemic circulation, activity of the liver's reticulo-endothelial system (kupffer cells) in the immune system. The liver stores and regulates the blood and is responsible for nourishing every cell in our body. Every part of the body depends on blood from the liver for nourishment and sustenance.

Excretion: formation and secretion of bile for digestion and cleansing of blood; removal of ammonia from blood; excretion of substances filtered from the blood by the liver such as heavy metals or dyes.

Metabolism: carbohydrate, protein, lipid (fat), mineral and vitamin metabolism; manufacturing and storage of many nutrients such as glucose and vitamins; production of heat through metabolism.

Protection and detoxification: removal of foreign bodies from the blood (phagocytosis); detoxification by conjugation, methylation, oxidation and reduction.

Production; formation of urea, serum albumin, glycogen and blood coagulating proteins such as prothrombin, fibrinogen and heparin; erythrocyte (red blood cells) destruction.

Regulation of hormones: inactivation and elimination of hormones through the bile or urine. Since estrogen and androgen are both growth hormones which stimulate cell division, elevation of their levels in the blood due to the liver's failure to remove them efficiently can cause their accumulation in tissue. This in turn may lead to abnormal growths such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, breast cysts and breast cancer, prostate enlargement or prostate cancer. Excessive estrogen is also the most common cause of painful menstruations.

The liver also regulates body functions which affect emotional and mental activities.

Symptoms of Liver Toxicity can include digestive upset, bloating, pain on the right side of the stomach, yellowy tinge to the whites of the eyes (can be caused by other conditions as well), weight gain, fatigue, foggy thinking, and more.

Relieving liver congestion can be key to the recovery of mental and physical energy. Any detoxification process, including the Whole Approach program places demands on the liver. As long as you are not undertaking an aggressive liver “flush” such as the Hulda Clarke’s flush, you should be able to very gently introduce some liver support into the WA program. We provide the SFHF Milk Thistle Combo as a gentle liver support and detoxifier. It can be used with caution if you are feeling very sensitive. The best way to introduce it is gradually, like everything else. You can start with just a few drops and increase by two or more drops every few days according to how well you responded to the last dose. Daily Detox tea is an even gentler option and you could start with just the tea at first if you felt concerned about a healing crisis. Keep in mind that although the Milk Thistle Combo is an effective support and it does offer some cleansing benefits, it’s not a super aggressive product and most folks should be able to tolerate a gradually increasing dosage of it. In the book section we recommend a book by herbalist Benjamin Hoff called Natural Liver Therapy. I highly recommend this quick little read.
